So here I am. With yet another new mechanism of journaling.
I started years ago (around 2000, I think) with printed journals. Bound journals that provided great tactile sensation. From here I moved to a Word document. And from here, around August 2006, to a Community Server-based blog on my simonsmith.ca domain.
But after more than a year with this configuration, I’m ready to try something new. In part it’s the hassle of constantly upgrading technology, whereas Blogger, as a service, makes it easy to constantly get the latest features. Like email-to-blog and mobile blogging, which I plan on using.
In part it’s the fact that I’ve grown to use and love many of Google’s services, and its business models. I use Google Apps for my business, use GMail for personal communication, and increasingly find new Google services that are easy to use and just make sense.
And in part it’s the fact that some upcoming changes necessitate that I transition as much as possible from my current hosting provider and towards alternatives.
And finally, I’m craving writing, despite doing it so much professionally. And, seeking easier tools to facilitate my writing, and less distraction from managing technology, I turned here.
Of course, many of my old posts on simonsmith.ca won’t be accessible, but they will be available (at least temporarily) through Google’s cache, and I’ve saved everything to a file that I haven’t yet figured out what to do with.
Will Blogger be a more long-term option than my previous media? Time will tell.
